Online Graduate Accounting Certificate


The Online Graduate Accounting Certificate is designed for students and professionals with a foundational accounting background. Students can select 9 to 18 units of online graduate level accounting coursework tailored to their educational needs. This certificate will provide advanced level accounting courses to supplement foundational knowledge. It will also enable students to obtain additional coursework necessary for becoming a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) including optional courses that meet unique CPA requirements for Arizona, California, and Texas. 

The program has four different start dates each year of Fall I, Fall II, Spring I, and Spring II, with rolling admissions.

A graduate accounting certificate can help you obtain essential knowledge that will help you grow a career in accounting. Additionally the credits earned while obtaining a graduate accounting certificate can be applied to a future accounting masters program at the University of Arizona. 

What are the certificate requirements?

To obtain a graduate accounting certificate a minimum of three 3-unit online graduate level accounting courses (9 units total) must be completed.

In order to be eligible for a Graduate Accounting Certificate you must meet the following requirements:

Prerequisite Courses:

Many of the offered course have prerequisite course requirements. The following courses should be completed prior to starting your accounting certificate:

Introduction to Financial Accounting
Introduction to Managerial Accounting
Intermediate Financial Accounting I
Intermediate Financial Accounting II 
Introduction to Federal Taxation 

Minimum Academic Requirements:

  • 4-year Bachelor's Degree 
  • 2.75 GPA (4.0 scale)

To apply for the Graduate Accounting Certificate  you must submit a graduate certificate application through The application requires you to submit the following the materials:

  • Two Short Essay Responses
  • Official Transcripts
